Become a Front Desk Volunteer at Rotary Interpretive Center!

In recent years, the Rotary Interpretive Centre had close to 30,000 visitors per year. The Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve is growing and we're looking for front-desk volunteers for our Interpretive Center. The Center is open 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, and there are two volunteer hosting shifts per day (morning and afternoon) which volunteers can choose from. 

Volunteer responsibilities usually include hosting at the gorgeous Rotary Interpretive Centre, but may also provide opportunities for:

  • Gardening in our native plant gardens
  • Conducting bird and heron surveys
  • Preparing for and helping at special events
  • Working in the office or on committees
  • Helping with our education programs

No prior experience is needed to become involved in this opportunity. If you have 1-2 mornings or afternoons available per week and are passionate about connecting with your community and supporting the conservation of our local natural resources, then this role is for you!

Support our Conservation Technicians with Field Work Volunteering!

We are looking for volunteers to join us for outdoor conservation work! Since 2019, we have hired summer conservation staff who work hard to restore and maintain the habitat.

We are looking for people to volunteer with us, alongside our conservation team, who are passionate about the environment and conservation work! The busy season for this work is Spring and Summer. No prior experience is needed to become involved in this opportunity.

Conservation Volunteer Opportunities include (but are not limited to):

    • Invasive Plant Management
      • Tansy, English Ivy 
    • Yellow Flag Iris Seed Pod removal
    • Yellow Flag Iris Benthic Barriers
    • Monitoring and Surveying
    • Benthic Invertebrate Surveys
    • Fish Population Surveys

    Help out with our Art & Nature Summer Camps!

    Looking to get involved and help out a local non-profit this summer? We're looking for volunteers to help out with our Art & Nature Summer Camps!

    Assist with hands-on outdoor activities or art projects, support child engagement, and work alongside our experienced staff. No prior experience is necessary—just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to help. Volunteers are always paired with GBHNR staff and are not responsible for leading programs. Gain valuable experience, be part of a passionate team, and inspire the next generation of nature lovers and artists.
