Pick a program that suits your class and come “experience”  nature in these active and hands on programs. Let your class explore our site with a trained guide.

Wetlands Explorer

K – Grade 3

Come and be a wildlife detective! Use your observation skills to find clues and discover who lives in the wetlands.

 

Wetlands EcoTour

                                                  Grades 4 – 6

What’s so important about a wetland?  Come be a tourist in your own backyard as we hike around our site and learn about this diverse ecosystem.

 

Prey and Predator

Grade 2 - 6

This lively program of games and activities will engage students as they learn about the web of life!

 

                      Beavers Plus                        

                          K - Grades 3                             

Animals have amazing adaptations for living in the wetlands. Come discover the special features of our wetland creatures.

 

Hectic Herons   

Grade 2 and up  (March  April May)

 Get close-up look at over 300 Great Blue Herons nesting!   Test your observation skills and learn about the life cycle and behaviour of these beautiful birds.

Pond Prowl

Grades 2 – 6     (May June Sept) 

 

 This dip netting program will give students a real field experience as they explore pond ecology and insect larvae.  Note: This program is only offered once per week.

 

New This Fall

 Fine Arts Workshops with a Science focus.  Each program has a different focus aimed at Primary, Intermediate & Middle School students.

Introduction to Wildlife Art

Different workshops are available for Primary, Intermediate and Middle School. Students will use  a variety of media  to create works of art depicting wetland flora and fauna. 

              

Wildlife Art Explorer  

This  extended 2 hour  wildlife art program is for intermediate and middle school students with an emphasis on details.

Wildlife Photo Safari

A 2 hour extended program.  Your students will learn the basics of photography and then head out for a real wildlife photography safari.  Bring your own cameras for a “look” at conservation though the lens!

If your middle or high school class is interested in a visit please call the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve and a custom wetland tour or environmental project can be arranged
