About our School Programs

Each school visit lasts approximately 1hour and is delivered by a trained natural history interpreter.

Cost is $100 per class ( max 30 students) per one hour program.  Wildlife Art extended programs are $150 for a two hour program.

How to Book a Program

To book a program, first choose one from our School Programs listing.  Then contact the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve by email at herons@shawbiz.ca  or by phone at 604-823-6603

We will need to know which program you would like (review them here):

  • Beavers Plus
  • Introduction to Wildlife Art
  • Wildlife Art Explorer
  • Wildlife Photo Safari
  • Hectic Herons (March-May)
  • Pond Prowl (Sept and April-June)

We’ll also need to know:

  • your preferred date and time
  • your name
  • the name of your school/group
  • your contact name and phone number
  • grade and number of students

Community groups are welcome to book school programs as well.

Programs run rain or shine so be prepared to be outside.

The Rotary Interpretive Centre at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve has a meeting area, indoor (and outdoor) washrooms and outdoor picnic tables.  All trails and facilities are wheelchair-accessible.

General parking is to the left, on the dyke, outside the gates.  Parking for the disabled is inside the gates, near the Interpretive Centre.

Please plan to arrive five minutes before your start time.

Note: Although our programs are geared towards a younger audience, if your middle or high school class is interested in a visit please call the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve and a wetland tour or environmental project can be arranged.

Special thanks to Vancouver Foundation and the Province of BC for their support of our education programs.
