Jupiter Night

Thank for making this a special
evening!
Saturday, September
26th, 2009
About 300 - 350 people came out to celebrate the
International Year of
Astronomy by joining astronomy popularizer
Ken Hewitt-White and members of the Fraser Valley Astronomers Society
for an evening of stargazing at the Heron Reserve. The festivities
opened with an informal talk in our new outdoor amphitheatre
about Galileo's discovery of the moons of Jupiter 400 years
ago. There were 16 telescopes set up around the Great Blue Heron
Nature Reserve site. Around 90 % of the people attending had not
attended the previous astronomy event held at the GBHNR.
Telescopic observing of the giant planet, plus the Moon and other
bright celestial objects, commenced
at 8pm.
Ideal for the entire family "Jupiter Night"
was a free
public event.
