Hours of Operation
Nature Reserve site:
Monday to Sunday, 8:00 am to about dusk.
Rotary Interpretive Centre building:
Feb 1 until Oct 31
Open daily 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
Nov 1 until Jan 31
Open daily 11:00 am to 3:00 pm
Pre-booked group, and
school interpretive tours are available.
Note: On rare occasions,
Rotary Interpretive Centre is closed due to extreme weather or
volunteer staff having to cancel at the last minute.

For locals: The Reserve is located on the south end of
Sumas Prairie Road on the Vedder River dyke.
For out-of-towners: Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve is located
on the south west of
Chilliwack, BC. It is south of the Trans Canada Highway (Highway #1),
which is the major east-west highway.
Once you are off the highway,
watch for the Great Blue Heron
Nature Reserve signs.

Detailed Directions
From the West (Vancouver)
Take exit 109, (just past the Vedder
Canal) Yale Road West. Turn right (south) onto Yale Road West and
continue to Sumas Prairie Road. Turn right onto Sumas Prairie
traveling south to the end of the road. You will be at the reserve.
From the East (Hope)
Take exit 116, turn left onto Lickman Road
traveling south. Turn right on Keith Wilson Road, left on Sumas
Prairie Road and follow to the end. You will be at the reserve. Note
there is a stop sign at each turn.
From the South (USA)
You can cross into Canada at several border
crossings between Vancouver and Abbotsford (Sumas Border). Once in
Canada, locate the Trans Canada Highway (Highway #1) and then head
East, towards Abbotsford / Chilliwack / Hope. Take exit 109, (just
past the Vedder Canal) Yale Road West. Turn right (south) onto Yale
Road West and continue to Sumas Prairie Road. Turn right onto Sumas
Prairie traveling south to the end of the road. You will be at the
reserve.
